One of the best things about going on holiday? Getting acquainted with our hotel room/suite! Livingetc loves checking out all the fittings and features – plus seeing what ideas we can take home. This pared-back luxe space is definitely ticking our boxes – the bare concrete floor and simple white bed linen, the perfectly symmetrical industrial pendant bulbs and matching distressed bedside units, the fuss-free sleeping area, unencumbered by furniture. It all adds up to a Zen-like oasis with just a nod to the contemporary world (we spy a docking station), plus a dash of dark humour – we couldn’t help smiling at the pair of bright red skulls behind the bed.

While we adore strict linear lines around a home, we’re also big fans of smooth, curvaceous shapes – and this set of doors is right up our street. Not only does it look fabulous, but the curved glazing makes it easier to move around this corner of the building, which sits between the kitchen, the living area and the garden. By rounding off the zone, it softens the look of the sliding steel frames, while also echoing the design of the tiled wall further inside the house. And those looped Thonet bistro chairs match the scheme beautifully… *swoon*

Tucked out of view until a visit is required, the bathroom is one of the few areas in the house where you can really go to town with your decorating. And in an all-white scheme, it’s the perfect spot to provide a much-needed hit of colour, as seen here. The punchy green graphic wallpaper would make a fab early morning wake-up call for sleepy family members and give your guests a nice surprise. And the green theme is cleverly picked up in the stylish antique washstand and eucalyptus display. The brilliant addition of the edgy pop art posters makes for one jazzy space.

    Sexy en suite

Now that we’re no longer fazed by unisex changing rooms (Mr and Mrs Livingetc often cram into a single cubicle when we take the kids to the local pool), our bathrooms at home have begun to blur the lines between absolutely feminine and strictly masculine. Take this beautiful space, for example. The solid bank of charcoal slabs give the scheme a heavy dose of man style, but the soft blue walls that lighten the mood are straight out of Laura Ashley. And can we really imagine a chap lounging back in that chair while his beloved takes a bath? Well, maybe if he was the kind of guy that would secretly covet that dress instead…
